Certificate in Alternative Teacher Licensure

亚色影库-Gallup is now offering certificates in Alternative Teacher Licensure for Elementary Education and Secondary Education to help educators earn a New Mexico Level 1 teaching license.  

These certificate programs are ideal for those who have completed a bachelor’s degree in a non-traditional teaching field and want a fast track into teaching. 

 

Which certificate is right for you?  

If you enjoy instructing and spending time with elementary aged children, enroll in the Alternative Teacher Licensure Certificate for Elementary Education.  

If you have a special interest or educational background in science, social studies, math or language arts, enroll in the Alternative Teacher Licensure Certificate for Secondary Education. 

Requirements 

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree. 
  • Must be employed as a teacher. 

Completion 

The Elementary Education certificate is a 21-credit program, and the Secondary Education certificate is an 18-credit program. Each can be completed in four semesters.  

Upon completion, you can apply for a New Mexico Level 1 teaching license. New Mexico teaching salaries start at $50,000 for those with a Level 1 license.

In both programs, you will take courses such as Foundations of Education, Curriculum and Assessment, Effective Teaching and more. Plus, you will take one semester of Field Experience and earn credits by teaching in your own classroom.

Classes for both programs are created for those with a busy schedule. Classes are offered in person or online in the evening to accommodate your work/teaching schedule. The program must be started in the fall semester.
